· BBC Southern Counties Radio have decided to record the testimonies of local Holocaust survivors.

 

· 300 people attended Guildford Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration at the University of Surrey. The event was co-organised by Guildford Borough Council, the University of Surrey Chaplaincy and the Guildford Jewish Community. The participants heard from three survivors: Mimi Conway, Barbara Frankiss and Martin Bennet. (Click here for programme)

 

· Alexander Goldberg and Aryeh Nusbacher spoke about the Holocaust Memorial Day on BBC Southern Counties Radio and Eagle FM.

 

· Elkan Levy, Director of the Office of Small Communities, spoke to the Guildford Jewish Community on Jewish Emancipation in England on 13th January.

January 2005

· Chaplains and students from different faiths went on a study visit to Auschwitz on 22nd-25th March 2005 as part of the 60th Anniversary of the Commemoration of the camps. The trip was organised by the University Multifaith Chaplaincy.

 

· Surrey Three Faiths Forum was launched in Guildford on 2nd March 2005 at Guildford Cathedral. Over 150 people attended the event. The main address was given by Sheikh Zaki Badawi (Mar-05)

·  

· Guildford had a lively Purim Party. Prizes were awarded for best costume. Barbara Gellman won the adult competition

 

· Challah and bagels are now being sold at Guildford (North Street) Market on a Friday. We understand that this comes from a “Jewish baker” in London. The Community are investigating products sold there (Feb-05)
